Colorado Residents, for tax purposes, are persons who have made a home in Colorado or whose intentions are to be Colorado residents. The Department of Revenue will consider vehicle, voter and school registration, drivers license, property ownership and residence of spouse and children as evidence of intentions.
Colorado Part-year residents are individuals who were residents of Colorado for only part of the tax year, including individuals who moved into Colorado with the intention of making their home there or Colorado residents who moved out of Colorado with the intention of making their home elsewhere. Taxable income from all sources is computed, then applied to the regular Colorado tax table. The amount from the tax table is multiplied by the percentage that represents the percentage of Colorado income compared to total income.
