How to file Ohio Tax Extension?

Question: How to file Ohio Income Tax Extension?

Answer: The income tax deadline is April 15 and if you can’t make the deadline, you have to file a tax extension.  For Federal tax extension, you need to file Form 4868 and will extend the Federal tax deadline by six months to October 15.

If you file the federal tax extension, Form 4868, Ohio will automatically grant you a 6-month tax extension to October 15.  If however, you need to pay Ohio taxes or owe Ohio state taxes, you must pay by April 15.  Your tax return can be file by October 15 but your payment still must be sent by April 15.

To send Ohio tax payment, fill out form Ohio Form IT 40P along with your check payment.
